A car elevator lifts a vehicle from one level to another when there is no room for a ramp. In crowded city plots in Patna, Varanasi and other growing towns, a ramp to a basement or upper parking floor can eat up a large share of usable land. A car lift does the same job in a much smaller footprint. Eldeal Engineers designs and installs car elevators for residential buildings, bungalows, car showrooms, service centres and commercial parking in Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
When a car elevator makes sense
- Small or narrow plots where a ramp would take too much space or be too steep.
- Basement parking in apartments and commercial buildings on tight city sites.
- Car showrooms that display vehicles on the first floor or a mezzanine.
- Service centres and workshops that need to move vehicles to upper bays.
- Luxury homes with a garage on a different level from the road.
Every square metre saved from a ramp can be used for more parking, shops or living space. In many projects, that value alone justifies the lift. A car lift can also make a difficult site workable, where a ramp would be too steep for safe daily use or would block the entrance.
Types of car lifts
Hydraulic car elevator
The most common choice for two or three levels. A hydraulic cylinder pushes the platform up, giving strong lifting power with a simple machine. It needs little overhead space. Learn more on our hydraulic goods elevator page, which uses similar technology.
Traction car elevator
Suited to taller buildings and more floors. A V3F-controlled traction machine gives smooth, well-controlled travel with the car stopping level at each floor.
Platform with or without cabin
An open platform with guard rails is simple and economical. An enclosed car with walls and doors gives better protection and a neater look, which suits showrooms and homes.
Typical car elevator configurations
The ranges below are typical for the industry and indicative only. Platform size is always based on the largest vehicle you plan to carry.
| Typical use | Capacity (kg) | Vehicle size | Typical speed | Common drive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home garage | 2000–2500 | Hatchback or sedan | 0.1–0.25 m/s | Hydraulic |
| Apartment or office parking | 2500–3000 | Sedan or compact SUV | 0.15–0.3 m/s | Hydraulic or traction |
| Showroom or service centre | 3000–4000 | Large SUV or MUV | 0.15–0.5 m/s | Hydraulic or traction |
Safety features
A car lift carries a heavy load, and sometimes a driver stays in the vehicle. Safety has to be designed in from the start.
- Overload sensor with voice prompt so the lift will not move with a vehicle beyond its rated load.
- Door or gate interlocks so the platform only moves when landing gates are closed.
- Light curtain or safety sensors at the entry to detect people and objects.
- Automatic Rescue Device (ARD) on suitable drive types, to bring the platform to a landing during power failure.
- Wheel guides and stop markers to position the vehicle correctly on the platform.
- Intercom, alarm and emergency light for anyone inside.
Planning your car lift
A car elevator is a structural project as much as a mechanical one. Early planning with your architect avoids expensive rework. Key points include:
- Vehicle size: length, width and weight of the biggest car you expect in future, not only today.
- Pit depth and headroom: hydraulic designs usually need less headroom; traction designs need a machine space.
- Approach space: room to drive straight on and off without difficult turns.
- Power supply: a suitable three-phase connection and backup plan.
- Drainage: basement pits must stay dry in the monsoon.

Installation and care
Our team handles supply, installation and testing, with checks at each stage. Car lifts work hard, so we recommend regular maintenance to keep hydraulics, rails, gates and sensors in good order. We provide 24/7 support across our service areas in Bihar, Eastern UP and Delhi NCR.
